Initial Interview

Initial Interview

To initiate therapy, parents and their child meet with Dr. Oke to allow her to observe the child’s language development, cognitive abilities, social skills, and behavioral issues. A second appointment is scheduled for parents to meet without the child present for a clinical interview to explore their concerns, obtain relevant information, and provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions. At the end of this appointment, goals for therapy are discussed and recommendations are made regarding the frequency of sessions and therapeutic strategies. Recommendations may be made for further evaluation and referrals may be made for additional assessment in related areas (e.g., neurological evaluation, speech and language evaluation, occupational therapy evaluation).
